CollegeBacker is an online college savings account advisory service that helps families save money for college by helping users create a 529 savings account. The service is intended for millennial families but CollegeBacker also partners with institutions - schools, companies, and organizations - to integrate their service as part of educational matching.
I joined CollegeBacker in September to December as a part-time UX designer, working directly with founders Abby Chao and Jordan Lee.
What I learned
Working at CollegeBacker allowed me to explore the dynamic of working in a very small, fast-paced startup environment. I had previously only had limited experience in designing for web and my time at CollegeBacker was a valuable introduction to designing products for finance and education as well as web-design practices.
What I did
identify pain points in the extensive onboarding process and help facilitate and streamline the user flow to reduce confusion. During the three months I was collaborating with CollegeBacker, I redesigned the onboarding flow for new users and brainstormed the concept for a user dashboard.
